Snow Removal Labourer
Department: Landscaping – The Green Spot Home & Garden Center
Position Type: Seasonal (On-Call), with potential for year-round employment
Location: Brandon, Manitoba

Our Landscaping Department operates year-round, offering everything from lawn and garden care to hardscaping and commercial property maintenance. Position Overview
Snow Removal Labourers are responsible for carrying out on-call snow and ice management services for residential, commercial, and institutional properties. This includes snow shoveling, snow blowing, ice melt application, and general outdoor labour in winter conditions. The role demands reliability, awareness of changing weather, commitment to safety, and proper operation and care of all tools and equipment.
Seasonal staff who exhibit strong performance may have the opportunity to transition into year-round roles within our Landscaping Department.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Respond to snow-shift call-ins (day prior or day of) depending on weather and crew scheduling
- Perform snow removal using shovels, snow blowers, ice-melt spreaders, and other hand tools
- Conduct pre- and post-operation inspections on tools and machinery
- Assist with routine maintenance, cleaning, and refueling of equipment after use
- Report any mechanical issues, hazards, or property concerns immediately to supervisors
- Apply ice-management products safely and effectively
- Follow all company safety policies and wear required PPE
- Maintain awareness of surroundings—especially when working near buildings, vehicles, and pedestrian areas
- Work collaboratively as part of a team, supporting fellow Green Spot crew members to complete routes efficiently and safely
- Complete assigned routes and document work performed using our management software
- Work in a safe, efficient, and professional manner in fast-paced, physically demanding winter conditions
Requirements
- Valid Class 5 driver’s license is preferred but not required (mandatory for driving company vehicles or operating certain equipment)
- Strong work ethic, reliability, honesty, and ability to work well within a team
- Comfortable working outdoors in cold, snowy, and variable weather conditions
- Physically capable of lifting, bending, walking, and performing repetitive tasks for extended periods
- Must be available for early morning call-ins and occasional short-notice shifts
- Ability to adapt to changing priorities based on snowfall, temperature, and customer needs
- Must supply appropriate cold-weather winter gear, including insulated boots, gloves, and outerwear suitable for extended outdoor work
