Manitoba Notes
Because Manitoba winters reach deep cold in zones 3–4, plant bulbs in fall before the ground freezes. Be sure to choose well-drained soil (raised beds or sandy mixes help). Add a light mulch layer for winter protection, and remove heavy mulch in spring to let warmth reach the soil. These small crocuses often bloom early—even through snow patches—so avoid disturbing them during freeze-thaw cycles.
