October at The Green Spot brings big savings on plants, trees, fashion, home goods, and more, with discounts up to 75% off. Plus, enjoy a full calendar of seasonal workshops, family events, and festive fun leading up to Halloween.
Welcome to October, my friends! With the change in season rapidly taking hold of both our weather and our hearts, it’s time to consider a few things. Are you a Thanksgiving person? Or a Halloween person? This is the start of the season of holidays — both big and small, sweetly enticing and thoughtfully somber. Just last month (well, really just last week!) at our Fall Maker’s Market, we raised $1,220 for the Women’s Shelter with our largest market yet. And as I keep saying: it’s all thanks to you, our lovely friends. But onto the nitty-gritty, shall we? This month, we’re pumping up the sales as we carve out our specials and events for October! It’s important to take care of yourself, too. We’ve had these adorable lamps and indoor lights for a while now, and it’s all about lighting up your life — or gifting someone else a little glow to let them know they light up everyone else’s! Our salt and crystal lamps are soothing to the soul — and soothing to your wallet at 30% off. (I couldn’t help myself. Not sorry though!) We’ve got a sale running for your four-legged companions — all pet accessories are 50% off! Leashes, collars, soaps, beds, and toys — perfect for spoiling your best friend or donating to a local shelter or rescue to spread the love. It’s time to winterize your bird feeders and restock seeds for the colder months. Keep your feathered guests full and happy with 50% off selected bird feeders and foods. (I’m personally imagining the fluffiest little chickadees on my new winter feeders.) It’s time to fertilize your plants, and we’re here to help — in more ways than one! (More on that in the Events section!) With selected plant food and fertilizers at 50% off, it’s the perfect time to make sure your trees, shrubs, perennials, and soil have all the nutrients they need to thrive next spring. This month we’ve got loads of things coming up — both informative and fun — for you and the whole family! We’re starting the shutdown of the perennials, and what better time to pass along some knowledge? Ever wondered what to do when winterizing your flower beds? How much fertilizer to apply now for better yields in spring? How much mulch to use to protect your peonies (or lilies)? What kind of mulch is best? We’ve got you covered in this free session led by Ian! From 3:30 to 5 PM, he’ll walk you through pruning, prepping, and putting your garden to bed for the season. Our returning Sourdough Class is unfortunately sold out — but keep an eye out for Marina’s next classes coming soon to the greenhouse! As this is a private event, we can’t invite you to join in the fun this time, but we encourage you to sign up for her next class! Note: The Secret Garden Café will be closed to the public at 2 PM this Saturday. We’ll be closed to take time to be thankful for our family, friends, and all the things that made this year great. It’s always good to do a quarterly review — and right now, it’s best to gather our gratitude as we move into the final months of the year. If you missed Ian’s first class, not to fear! He’ll be back with a repeat session to go over everything again. Learn tips and tricks to keep your garden thriving and the envy of the neighborhood! Also on this day: The Secret Garden Café will host the Leaves & Literature Book Club meeting in the afternoon, discussing October reads and spilling just a little tea. We’re always open to new members — so if you’re looking for a cozy group of all ages to sit and vibe with, stop by the Café and sign up. We’d love to have you! We’re also kicking off The Green Spot’s portion of the Halloween Hop with Alternative and Livingstone! Every entry gives you a chance to win a Greenhouse gift card, and if you attend all three events and get your card stamped, you’ll be entered into the Grand Prize Draw at the end of the month! From October 14th to 31st, you can run through our Straw Bale Maze and support Habitat for Humanity at the same time! We’re welcoming back our annual Movie Night hosted by Bloom Box — popcorn, snacks, and family fun in the greenhouse after dark! During the day, Bloom Box is running their Pumpkin Carving Event, and our friends from One at a Time Rescues will be here selling 50/50 tickets — and maybe bringing along some sweet rescues in need of their fur-ever homes! We’re thrilled to welcome back the talented Cynthia Korman to the greenhouse for a cozy fall photo shoot! You’ve got two ways to join in: Book a session with Cynthia and let her work her magic with her beautiful professional photography. Or, donate to the photo booth (just a small amount!) and snap some selfies of you, your family, and your furry friends in a charming fall setup. Costumes are optional — but way more fun! From 3:30 to 5 PM, the Leaves & Literature Book Club will be back in the Café, letting loose about this month’s reads! Wishing you all a spooky, safe, and sweet Halloween! Hope you got all your entries into the draw for the Grand Prize!Let’s go over the sales first!
