Landscaping Labourer – Fall Cleanup & Snow Removal

Department: Landscaping – The Green Spot Home & Garden Centre
Position Type: Seasonal / Casual (Fall & Winter) – Hours are weather-dependent and may vary week-to-week
Location: Brandon, Manitoba

About Us

The Green Spot Home & Garden Centre is a long-established, community-focused business providing dependable landscaping and snow management services throughout Brandon and the surrounding area. Our Landscaping Department provides year-round property maintenance for residential, commercial, and institutional customers. We take pride in efficient crews, quality work, and a team that shows up when the weather doesn't.

Position Overview

We are looking for seasonal Landscaping Labourers to join our crew for the fall cleanup and winter snow removal season. Work begins with fall property cleanups, including leaf and debris removal, garden and landscape cleanup, and preparing properties for winter. As the season changes, the position transitions into snow and ice management for residential and commercial properties.

This is a physically demanding, hands-on position with hours that depend heavily on weather conditions. During snow events, employees must be prepared for early mornings, evenings, weekends, and potentially long shifts. Snow does not have the decency to restrict itself to regular business hours.

Reliable employees may be considered for continued work through future landscaping seasons and other opportunities within our Landscaping Department.

Who This Role Is Ideal For

  • Someone who prefers active, outdoor work over sitting behind a desk
  • Individuals comfortable working in cold, snow, wind, and changing weather conditions
  • People who can reliably report to work when snowfall requires it
  • Those comfortable with early mornings, evenings, weekends, and variable schedules
  • People who take pride in leaving properties clean, safe, and properly finished
  • Those looking for seasonal income with the potential for future landscaping work

What to Expect

  • Physically demanding work including lifting, shovelling, bending, and walking for extended periods
  • Outdoor work in cold, snow, wind, wet conditions, and Manitoba winter weather
  • Weather-dependent scheduling with hours that can vary considerably from week to week
  • Early starts and occasional evening, overnight, weekend, or holiday work during snow events
  • Fast-paced, route-based work where properties must be completed safely and efficiently
  • Periods with limited hours when there is little or no snowfall

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Perform fall property cleanups including leaf, plant material, and debris removal
  • Assist with garden bed cleanup and preparation of properties for winter
  • Load, haul, and dispose of leaves, branches, debris, and other materials
  • Shovel and clear snow from sidewalks, entrances, walkways, steps, and other designated areas
  • Apply ice-melting and traction products where required
  • Assist with commercial and residential snow removal routes
  • Operate landscaping and snow removal tools and equipment safely and efficiently
  • Load, unload, and transport tools, equipment, materials, and ice-control products
  • Maintain and clean tools and equipment before and after use
  • Identify and report hazards, icy conditions, property concerns, or equipment issues
  • Follow all safety procedures and wear required PPE
  • Work efficiently as part of a crew to complete scheduled properties and routes
  • Represent The Green Spot professionally while working on customer properties

Requirements

  • No previous landscaping or snow removal experience is required, but reliability and a strong work ethic are essential
  • Ability to work well as part of a crew and follow direction
  • Comfortable working outdoors in cold and changing winter conditions
  • Physically capable of lifting, shovelling, bending, walking, and performing repetitive tasks
  • Ability to work efficiently while maintaining attention to safety and property conditions
  • Reliable availability during and immediately following snowfall events
  • Ability to work early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays when weather conditions require it
  • Valid Class 5 driver's licence is a strong asset and may lead to increased responsibility and pay
  • Must provide appropriate outdoor work gear, including winter boots, gloves, and weather-appropriate clothing

Why Join The Green Spot Team?

  • Work outdoors in a hands-on, active environment
  • Be part of a small, efficient crew where reliability and effort matter
  • Wage based on experience, reliability, and skill level
  • Opportunity to gain experience with professional landscaping and snow management
  • Potential to return for spring, summer, and fall landscaping seasons
  • Opportunities for additional responsibility for employees with equipment experience and a valid driver's licence
  • Work with a locally trusted company with strong roots in the Brandon community
