Planting Tips for Manitoba
- Timing: Plant hardy bulbs (garlic, allium, crocus) in fall before ground freeze. Ranunculus prefers frost-free conditions—start indoors in spring or plant after last frost.
- Soil: Choose well-drained sites; raised beds or sandy amendments help bulbs overwinter and prevent rot.
- Mulch: Apply a light mulch after the ground cools; remove heavy mulch early in spring so shoots emerge quickly.
- Water: Keep evenly moist during establishment; avoid standing water, especially in spring thaws.
